Your work will contribute to the successful delivery of high-quality, efficient, and safe electrical systems.

To achieve this goal, the position is responsible for creating electrical enclosure designs and single-line electrical schematics, analyzing and correcting redline prints, troubleshooting and debugging electrical designs, and determining material and component specifications based on job requirements. This role involves adhering to RND standards for both process and component selection, as well as collaborating with the team to establish or modify these standards as necessary.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Design & Development: Create detailed electrical design drawings and schematics using AutoCAD Electrical and Inventor. Design enclosure layouts and determine cable lengths for all equipment on machine.

  • Technical Analysis: Perform load calculations, thermal calculations, and other technical evaluations to ensure system efficiency and compliance with codes and standards. Verify conformance of components to customer specifications

  • Collaboration: Work closely with project managers, engineers, electricians, and assemblers to integrate electrical designs into overall project plans. Provide technical guidance and support during the build/debug phase. Actively participate in project design reviews and huddles

  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all designs comply with national electrical codes and standards. Stay updated on changes in regulations and industry best practices.

  • Documentation: Prepare and maintain accurate project documentation, including electrical bill of materials, specifications, and change orders.

  • Problem Solving: Identify and resolve design issues or discrepancies in collaboration with the project team. Propose and implement design modifications as necessary.

  • Quality Assurance: Conduct design reviews and quality checks to ensure accuracy and adherence to project requirements. Maintain and help to set standards for electrical component selection and use

  • Client Interaction: Communicate effectively with clients to understand their needs and preferences. Present design concepts and adjust based on feedback.

Daily Activities:

  • Attend project huddles.

  • Develop electrical drawings and schematics.

  • Design enclosure layouts and determine cable lengths

  • Answer questions about design from engineers and electrical assemblers.

  • Perform safety risk assessments for machines

  • Research project-specific technologies and how to implement them into RND machines.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Design, or a related field.

  • Experience: 5+ years of experience in electrical design or a related role. Experience with automation/manufacturing projects is preferred.

  • Skills:

    • Proficiency in AutoCAD Electrical including ability to create accurate and consistent schematics, run and modify reports, import/export data, and modify catalog databases.

    • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel. Be able to manage and clearly communicate data related to electrical design amongst the Engineering, Purchasing, and Production teams.

    • Strong understanding of electrical codes, standards, and regulations. Be able to size circuit protection, conductor ampacity, and thermal management. Experience designing machines for compliance with NFPA79, UL508A, and/or CE a plus.

    • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills. UL and/or CE experience also preferred.

    • Basic understanding of Machine safety, safety component selection, and safety circuit design.

  • Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse team.
